Steaming Mad

I am in a bad motherfucking mood. Ever since vacation, nothing has been going right.

First off, I came back into a shitstorm of stuff to do at work. I knew this was coming, but it's stressful nonetheless. I had a grand total of 8 days (4 left) to create an application from scratch that is capable of managing a brand new aspect of our company. Did I mention that there are absolutely no design specs for this project, and that the requirements are still not defined? Luckily, I like my job, I like my coworkers, and I like a challenge.

Then, a few nights ago, we got a letter from our condo landlords from vacation saying that they were keeping our $300 security deposit because the condo was "extremely dirty" (this is an outright lie), somebody put liquid dishsoap in the dishwasher (Stutz, I'm looking your way), and their cheap folding door that hid the washer and dryer was "broken beyond repair" (not true). Great.

Yesterday, I came home to an 85 degree house. The thermostat was dead... no power coming to it. No AC on the hottest day of the year (so far). We couldn't get anyone to come out that late, so we had to sweat it out until today. Someone finally came and replaced the transformer in the furnace to the tune of $110 for 30 minutes of work. He was supposed to be here first thing in the morning... which turned out to equal 1pm and a wasted day for Stef (she had to wait for him).

Last night, my GameCube finally quit working. No more MarioKart for me.

Today, I went Churchil Downs and bet on every single race. I did not win even once. $BEAN-=50.

This evening, I got the escrow statement from our bank showing our newly-assessed taxes. Simply put, due to poor planning and mistakes (on my part), our monthly mortgage payment is going from $750 to $1250. That is not a typo.

And our kitchen light bulb burnt out. Goddammit goddammit goddammit goddammit goddammit goddammit goddammit! I think I may explode.

Forgot to mention that I recently discovered termites in my house. Any ideer what that's gonna cost to take care of?
bigD (June 23, 2006 at 09:04:33 AM):
depends on how much damage they've caused already. could be the cost to get a termite guy out there to spray all the way up to and including the cost of a new house
corbin (June 23, 2006 at 10:47:31 AM):
bean, i can tell you termite guys aren't cheap. however, since your house is brand new, i can't imagine the damage is that extensive. it's gonna run you probably $500-1000 to get the termite guy to come out and set up a chemical shield, then about $100/year afterwords to keep him on contract to make sure they don't come back. when i bought my house, i found out it had termites. the guy i bought it from paid the guy to come out, and i've been paying him yearly to check and make sure i'm still bug free
John (June 23, 2006 at 04:21:59 PM):
in what state was the termite? only when termites are swarming do you find them flying around. they do that for a couple weeks when conditions are warm and humid. then they return to the ground. they love to live in areas like under a porch or poured concrete, and will then move into the lower sil plate of your house. a termite inspection is 25 bucks. basicly some guy (usually not to bright) comes and pokes your house with a metal rod. looks for tubes, and dead termites. if they find them. they will drill a hole every 8 inches around the concrete of your house and put some spray in there that the termites don't like. most you would spend for this is about 450.00
corbin (June 23, 2006 at 04:58:33 PM):
$31.50 of that goes to contanister for his standard 7% fee
bean (June 23, 2006 at 05:16:18 PM):
Based on this helpfull page and a few minutes use of my handy 60X-100X microscope, I hereby announce that the swarming pests are ants, not termites.

prank those birches in the thorax with some ant spray
bartow (June 26, 2006 at 02:15:10 PM):
your elevated mortgage payment is only for one year right? i'm guessing your base payment went up due to your taxes, plus you're having to pay an additional amount each month to catch up your escrow, which is usually spread out over a year.
bean (June 26, 2006 at 04:35:57 PM):
1250 for 1 year, then 950 thereafter.
TP (June 27, 2006 at 11:54:34 AM):
I guess i;ll need to kick in another $75 for the securitah deposit. That's total bs tho. They should have a better system of checking the condo upon arrival. As far as I know, we left it the same way we found it.

Also, my neihbor told me right before vaca that he had termites. My hoose was sprayed in '92, but that's prolly not gonna help me now. Ima go call the people that sprayed it originally right now!
bean (June 27, 2006 at 02:08:45 PM):
They are goign to give back most of the $ now - dont worry bout it. I think their cleaning crew is a bit shady.
TP (June 27, 2006 at 04:21:04 PM):
OK, I'll keep my money. BTW, scheduled for a termite inspection on Monday.
